Kingsbridge Without a Car

2026-06-10·Kingsbridge

Short answer: Kingsbridge has no station; Totnes is the nearest mainline stop, with buses on to Kingsbridge. It is the bus hub for the South Hams, including to Salcombe — which saves the town with the worst parking in the area.

Getting here

The nearest mainline station is Totnes, with buses running on to Kingsbridge. Not fast, but a pretty journey.

Bus timetables in Devon thin out sharply from October and differ between summer and winter. Check the operator's current timetable before building a day around a connection, and check the last bus back before you settle in.

The Salcombe trick

Salcombe's parking is cash-only, the lanes are narrow and the car parks fill by lunchtime. Plenty of visitors stay in Kingsbridge and take the bus down, which removes Salcombe's worst problem entirely.

What needs a car

Slapton Ley, Start Point, Bolberry Down and East Soar are all car territory, with small car parks and limited or no bus service.

Staying rather than visiting

Kingsbridge is a better car-free base than a day trip — stay, and use the buses to Salcombe and Dartmouth.
