Short answer: Totnes Castle welcomes dogs on leads and even puts out a dog bowl. The Steam Packet Inn, Waterside Bistro and Bruto Lounge all take dogs, and the Pig & Whistle just outside town is the best-rated place to eat in the area.
Totnes is a market town on the Dart rather than a beach resort, which means no seasonal beach bans to navigate. The riverside, the High Street and several of the best places to eat are all dog friendly.
Totnes Castle, English Heritage, allows dogs on leads — and puts out a dog bowl on site, with a dog waste bin in the garden outside the entrance. The best view over Totnes is from the top of the keep. No toilets at the castle; the nearest are in Market Square.
Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and Woodlands Family Theme Park are animal attractions. Assume no, and check directly before travelling.
Berry Pomeroy Castle, two and a half miles away, welcomes dogs on leads inside the castle, the gift shop and the café — unusually generous. The Dartmouth Steam Railway and river boats take dogs too.
