Dog Friendly Beer: Where to Eat Indoors

2026-05-06·Beer

Short answer: Beer Beach and the Hooken Cliffs undercliff walk both take dogs. The Anchor Inn, Beer Head Bistro and the Masons Arms at Branscombe all welcome dogs. Beer Quarry Caves and Steamers do not.

The beach and the undercliff

Beer Beach is a sheltered shingle beach under white chalk cliffs, with the fishing boats winched up on it. The Hooken Cliffs undercliff between Beer Head and Branscombe is a landslip of chalk pinnacles with a path running through it — one of the most unusual dog walks in Devon.

Beach dog rules in Devon change with the season — many ban dogs from May to September and lift the ban from October. Read the signs on arrival rather than assuming, because they vary beach by beach.

Eating indoors with a dog

Not dog friendly

Beer Quarry Caves are underground on a ninety-minute tour, and Steamers and the Smugglers Kitchen are not listed as dog friendly. Plan the caves for when someone can stay above ground with the dog.

Charlie's Yard

A small open space on Sea Hill just above the beach — a good spot to sit with a takeaway and the dog and watch the boats.

Nearby

Seaton, five minutes east, has the tramway — dogs travel for £2 each way, downstairs only. Seaton Wetlands is free with level paths.
