Beer Without a Car

2026-03-18·Beer

Short answer: Beer has no station. Buses along the east Devon coast connect it with Seaton and Sidmouth, and the mainline stations inland at Axminster and Honiton. The village and the Hooken undercliff walk are best on foot anyway.

Getting here

Buses along the east Devon coast link Beer with Seaton, Sidmouth and beyond, and with the mainline stations inland. It takes planning rather than being impossible.

Bus timetables in Devon thin out sharply from October and differ between summer and winter. Check the operator's current timetable before building a day around a connection, and check the last bus back before you settle in.

On foot

The caves

Beer Quarry Caves are a mile inland from the village — walkable, but factor it in. Phone ahead for tour times, which is worth doing anyway without a car.

Seaton next door

Five minutes east, with the tramway running up the Axe estuary and the wetlands halfway. A good two-village car-free day.
