Short answer: Bideford is a working town on the Torridge, so winter changes little. Its real value is location: The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and the region's best soft play are all within fifteen minutes.
Bideford's value between November and March is not the town itself, pleasant though the quay is. It is that almost every indoor attraction in north Devon sits within fifteen minutes of it.
Check the opening days before driving out. Two of those three close on weekdays in winter and people turn up to locked gates.
The Tarka Trail runs straight through, flat and paved, so no mud. Victoria Park by the quay is free and open 7am to 9pm, with a playground that is empty in January.
The beaches nearby do not close, but Westward Ho!'s £8 flat parking charge applies in February exactly as it does in August — so a short winter visit there is poor value.
Winter opening is where online listings are least reliable. Ring before you drive — several places here show as closed on Google and answer the phone perfectly happily.
