Where to Eat in Croyde: The Thatch and the Surf Cafés

2026-09-13·Croyde

Short answer: The Thatch is effectively the centre of Croyde and keeps going all winter. Billy Budds does handmade pizzas under cover. The Manor House Inn's Sunday carvery is worth planning around — book if you have a dog.

The centre of the village

The Thatch. Small rooms, live music, big portions, and it stays open when much of Croyde does not. On a wet evening in February it is where everyone is.

For pizza

Billy Budds has a covered area and handmade pizzas — the right answer when the surf has finished and nobody wants to sit down properly.

For Sunday lunch

The Manor House Inn at the top of the village does a carvery worth planning the day around. Book if you are bringing a dog.

Above the bay

Cafe Croyde Bay is dog friendly with all-day breakfasts, and there is a sauna and cold plunge next door — a considerably better winter proposition than a summer one, particularly after a cold session in the water.

Worth the ten minutes

Beachside Grill at Saunton sits right beside three miles of sand with a proper kitchen, and Saunton allows dogs all year. The Williams Arms at Wrafton does a carvery every day of the week.

With a dog

The Thatch, Billy Budds, the Manor House and Cafe Croyde Bay all take dogs. Croyde's summer beach restrictions lift in October, so the bay is open through the winter.

Devon's good rooms are small rooms. Book at weekends and always for Sunday lunch, and ring rather than trusting a booking form out of season.
