Things to Do in Seaton: A First-Timer's Guide

2026-09-22·Seaton

Short answer: Seaton Tramway is the reason to come — open-topped trams three miles up the Axe estuary to Colyton, every twenty minutes. Seaton Wetlands beside it is free with level accessible paths and bird hides.

The tramway is the attraction

Seaton Tramway runs open-topped narrow-gauge trams, Victorian in style and some over a century old, three miles up the Axe estuary to Colyton. Trams run about every twenty minutes and hop-on hop-off day tickets are available.

The Colyton terminus at the inland end has free parking, a good café doing home-made cakes and scones, and clean facilities — which makes it a sensible way round if seafront parking is busy.

The Riverside Depot, where the trams are kept and restored, runs depot tours for anyone who wants to see behind it.

Seaton Wetlands

Free, on the Axe, with bird hides, level accessible paths and a sand martin bank. All-terrain mobility scooters are available to hire. Hides are shelters, which makes this one of the few outdoor attractions in east Devon that works in poor weather — and winter is the good season for birds.

Where to eat

Nearby

Beer is five minutes west, with its fishing beach and the quarry caves a mile inland — eight degrees underground year-round and the best-rated attraction in east Devon. Phone ahead for tour times.

How long to allow

A full day if you do the tramway and the wetlands. Half a day for either on its own.
