Short answer: Shaldon is a small village with limited parking. Park at Teignmouth's Back Beach, which is cheaper and bigger than the seafront, and take the passenger ferry across — it is more fun and it solves the problem.
Shaldon is a small village on the estuary and parking in it is limited. The better plan on a busy day is to park at Teignmouth's Back Beach car park — cheaper and bigger than Teignmouth's seafront — and take the passenger ferry across.
It is a short crossing, it is more enjoyable than the drive round over the bridge, and it means one parking charge rather than two if you are seeing both.
Check operating days and times out of season before relying on it.
Shaldon has parking near the green and the Strand, and it fills on summer weekends. The village is compact enough that wherever you end up, nothing is far.
Ness Cove is reached through the Smugglers' Tunnel cut down through the red cliff, from the headland above. The Ness restaurant sits by the tunnel entrance and has the best view in Shaldon.
The RSPB reserve on the cliffs between Shaldon and Maidencombe has its own parking, and is excellent for birds of prey. A proper walk rather than a quick stop.
Teignmouth's seafront parking is around £4.60 for two hours. The Back Beach car park on the estuary side is the cheaper option and sits right by the ferry.
Charges are reviewed every year and seasonal tariffs change in March and November. Treat any price here as a guide and check the machine on the day.
