Okehampton Parking: The New Station Car Park by the A30

2026-09-30·Okehampton

Short answer: Okehampton Interchange opened on 1 August 2026 with a 200-space car park, about two minutes from the A30 and with step-free access. It is the easiest place to leave a car on this side of Dartmoor.

The new one

Okehampton Interchange, on the east side of the town, opened on 1 August 2026 — a second station for the Dartmoor Line, with a 200-space car park, step-free access, cycle parking and buses calling in. It sits about two minutes from the A30.

For anyone driving to Devon and wanting to reach the moor or Exeter by train, it is the most useful thing to happen to parking in this part of the county in years.

The original station

Still open, and the one to use for the town centre. It has the Dartmoor National Park information centre, a railway museum and a station café, so it works as a destination rather than only a car park.

In town

Okehampton is a working town rather than a resort, so central parking is straightforward most of the year — nothing like the coastal squeeze. Okehampton Castle, the largest castle ruin in Devon, has its own parking.

Parking for the moor

Before you drive onto the moor

Parts of the northern moor sit within the military firing range — check the firing times. The roads are unfenced with livestock and ponies on them, and in winter the light goes by four.

Charges are reviewed every year and seasonal tariffs change in March and November. Treat any price here as a guide and check the machine on the day.
