Dog Friendly Bideford: Where to Eat Indoors

2026-05-06·Bideford

Short answer: The Tarka Trail runs through Bideford — thirty flat, traffic-free miles, and a superb dog walk. Victoria Park takes dogs. Amalfi Bar and Cafe, the Thatched Inn and the Boathouse at Instow all welcome them. The Big Sheep and The Milky Way do not.

The Tarka Trail

The best dog walk in north Devon runs straight through Bideford. The Tarka Trail is a former railway line — flat, paved, traffic-free and benched — along the estuary. No cars, no mud, and you can turn round whenever the dog has had enough.

The Bideford Railway Heritage Centre on the trail has a café in a restored carriage, and dogs are welcome.

Victoria Park

A Victorian park by the quay with a large playground and a splash area, and dogs are welcome.

What does not take dogs

The Big Sheep and The Milky Way Adventure Park do not admit dogs. World of Wonder soft play is indoor play. Plan who stays with the dog before booking any of them.

Nearby beaches

Northam Burrows has a huge open beach with dogs on leads. Westward Ho! is good for a winter dog walk. Saunton Sands, half an hour north, allows dogs all year round.

Beach dog rules in Devon change with the season — many ban dogs from May to September and lift the ban from October. Read the signs on arrival rather than assuming, because they vary beach by beach.
