Dogs at Kents Cavern: The Woodland Trail Above Instead

2026-03-30·Updated 16 Oct 2026·Devon

Short answer: No. Kents Cavern is a guided tour through Britain's oldest prehistoric cave system, and dogs cannot come underground. The woodland trail above ground and the surrounding area give you options, but plan for the dog before you book a slot.

The short answer

No. The attraction is a guided walk through a prehistoric cave system in groups, underground, on uneven ground with low ceilings in places. It is not an environment a dog can be in, and the tour is the whole attraction — there is no way to do half of it.

What to do with the dog

The tour runs around fifty minutes to an hour, so this is a manageable gap rather than a whole day. The site has a woodland trail outside and a restaurant, so one of the party can stay above ground without it being a wasted hour.

Do not leave a dog in the car. The car park is small and Torquay gets warm; an hour is long enough to matter.

Worth knowing about the tour itself

Book a time slot in season — the car park is small and the tours run to a timetable. The guides are consistently described as funny as well as knowledgeable, and it is entirely weatherproof, which makes it the best wet-day attraction in Devon.

Dog policies change, and the consequence of getting it wrong is being turned away at the gate. This was checked in September 2026 — ring ahead if you are driving any distance.
