Short answer: Ilfracombe holds its fireworks at Halloween rather than on Bonfire Night: the Ilfracombe Fireworks and Halloween Party is on Friday 30 October. If you want the 5th itself, Woolacombe and the BIG Sheep at Bideford both run that night.
Ilfracombe is built into a valley running down to a harbour, which makes the whole town a natural amphitheatre. Anything launched over the water is visible from a great deal of it — the quay, the seafront, and the slopes above.
The chapel on the hill above the harbour gives real height and a view over the whole bay. It is a short but steep climb, and unlit, so take a torch and sensible shoes.
Ilfracombe Fireworks and Halloween Party — Friday 30 October. Ilfracombe does its fireworks at Halloween rather than on Bonfire Night, which catches out anyone planning around the 5th.
This date comes from the organiser's own poster, circulating locally in October 2026. The listings sites still show last year's event, so check with the organiser before travelling rather than relying on a search result.

This is Ilfracombe's advantage every winter. Unlike Woolacombe or Croyde, it has a high street, pubs and restaurants that serve people who live there.
Cheaper here than the surrounding villages year-round and easier still in November. Aim for the harbour end, which is level and puts you where the view is.
The harbour front and the seafront are level. It is only the climb to the chapel that is steep — the flat ground has a perfectly good view.
