Station Car Parks in Devon, and the Free Alternatives

2026-07-14·Devon

Short answer: Totnes steam railway station parking is around £7.50, and there is free parking on the nearby industrial estate. Okehampton's new Interchange station opened in August 2026 with a 200-space car park. Check current prices before travelling.

The Totnes one worth knowing

The steam railway station car park at Totnes is around £7.50, and visitors repeatedly point out that there is free parking on the nearby industrial estate a short walk away. If you are visiting Totnes Rare Breeds Farm, which is reached through the station, that saving is worth having.

Okehampton Interchange

New, and the most useful development for anyone driving to the train in this part of Devon. Okehampton Interchange opened on the east side of the town on 1 August 2026, about two minutes from the A30, with a 200-space car park, step-free access, cycle parking and buses calling in.

The original Okehampton station stays open and is the one to use if you want the town centre — it has the Dartmoor National Park information centre, a museum and the station café.

Park and ride rather than park at the beach

This is the underused trick in south Devon. Beach parking at Woolacombe, Croyde and Salcombe is expensive and fills early. Parking at a station and taking the train to Dawlish, Teignmouth or Paignton often costs less and removes the queue entirely.

Prices change

Station car park charges are reviewed regularly and vary between operators. Treat the figures above as a guide and check on the day — most car parks now take card or app payment, though Devon's phone signal is not always willing.

Where the train actually helps

Train times and fares change, and Devon's branch lines thin out on Sundays and in winter. Check National Rail or GWR for the day you are travelling.
