Family Pubs in Combe Martin: One With a Stream

2026-10-05·Combe Martin

Short answer: The Pack o' Cards is the one — a play area and a stream running through the garden, in a building made to look like a deck of cards. No baby changing, which is worth knowing. The Focsle overlooks the beach and does an enormous ploughman's.

The Pack o' Cards

The best family pub in this part of north Devon, and it is not close. There is a play area and a stream running through the garden, which occupies children for as long as you need it to. The building itself was built to resemble a deck of cards — four floors, fifty-two windows — by a man who won at gambling, which is a story children enjoy.

The one gap is baby changing: there is none. Sort that before you arrive rather than discovering it at the point of need.

The Focsle Inn

Overlooks the beach, very dog friendly, and does an enormous ploughman's — easy to share with a child who says they are not hungry and then eats half of yours. Being at the beach end, it also means nobody has to walk back up the street.

The Castle Inn

You can bring your own takeaway in, which is a rare and genuinely useful arrangement with children who will only eat chips. There is a beer garden by the church and a choir on some Fridays.

The Harbour Cafe

Not a pub, but the highest rated café in the village, with a cheap cooked breakfast and dogs allowed on leads. With small children, breakfast out is usually easier than lunch out.
