Family Friendly Pubs in Chagford: Where Kids Can Eat

2026-09-30·Chagford

Short answer: The Globe Inn does an outstanding Sunday roast with an excellent vegetarian option and has rooms upstairs. Ring O'Bells is the proper village local with good vegan options. The Birdcage has tables outside, which with children is usually the easier choice.

No play areas, but short distances

None of Chagford's pubs has a play area. What the village has instead is scale: everything is a minute from the square, so a restless child can be walked round the block and brought back, which is not an option in a town where you have parked half a mile away.

The Globe Inn

An outstanding Sunday roast and an excellent vegetarian option, which is more thought than most village pubs give it. There are rooms upstairs if you are staying. Sunday is when it is at its best and also when it is busiest — book.

Ring O'Bells

The proper village local, with good vegan options and rooms with views. It is the less formal of the two pubs, which generally makes it the easier one with children in tow.

The Birdcage

Excellent scones and tables outside. Outdoor tables are the single most useful feature a place can have with young children, and the Birdcage is the one in Chagford that reliably offers them. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Old Forge

Excellent breakfasts and a superb cream tea. Closed Monday and Sunday. Breakfast with children is usually easier than lunch, and this is the place to do it.
