Dog Friendly Kingsbridge: Where to Eat Indoors

Short answer: Seven Stars, the Crabshell Inn and Creeks End Inn all welcome dogs, and the Cove at Hope Cove is dog friendly too. Slapton Ley, Start Point, Bolberry Down and East Soar are all excellent dog walks. Verse is not dog friendly.

A dog-friendly base

Kingsbridge is the market town for the whole South Hams, and its pubs are dog friendly across the board. It also sits within twenty minutes of some of the best dog walking on the south coast.

Eating indoors with a dog

• Seven Stars on Mill Street — crab linguine, ham hock, a strong beer list.
• The Crabshell Inn on the quay — two levels looking up the estuary.
• Creeks End Inn — next to the long-stay car park, Sunday carvery.
• The Cove at Hope Cove, twenty minutes — two floors with sea views, open until midnight.

The walks

• Slapton Ley — the largest freshwater lake in the south west, with waterside paths. Free parking.
• Start Point — a three-quarter mile tarmac track to the lighthouse. Seals offshore.
• Bolberry Down — National Trust clifftop, wide paths, routes to Hope Cove.
• East Soar — coastal farmland with an honesty-box tea barn.

Livestock and birds

East Soar and Bolberry are working farmland and Slapton Ley is a nature reserve. Keep dogs on leads near livestock and in nesting season — these are exactly the places where it matters.

Not dog friendly

Verse, the best restaurant in the South Hams, is not listed as dog friendly. Book it for an evening when the dog can stay behind.
