Combe Martin Day Out for £50 or Less: How to Do It

2026-10-15·Combe Martin

Short answer: Almost everything worth doing in Combe Martin is free — the bay, the rock pools at low tide, the coast path and the Hangman walks. The Harbour Cafe does a cheap cooked breakfast and the Focsle's ploughman's is enormous. Fifty pounds is generous here.

What costs nothing

The rock pools are the day

Combe Martin's rock pools at low tide are the best thing in the village and they cost nothing. Check the tide before you set out, because at high water they are under the sea and you have driven here for a much smaller beach. A net and a bucket is the entire equipment list.

Cheap food

The Harbour Cafe is the highest rated café locally and does a cheap cooked breakfast, with dogs allowed on leads. The Focsle Inn overlooks the beach and does an enormous ploughman's that two people can make a decent dent in between them.

The clever one

The Castle Inn lets you bring your own takeaway into the pub, which is an unusual and genuinely money-saving arrangement. There is a beer garden by the church and a choir some Fridays. Buy chips, buy a pint, sit in the garden.

Where the cost comes in

Parking, and not much else. Park at the beach end — the village is two miles long and parking at the wrong end costs you the walk rather than money, but you may end up driving down and paying twice.

A day for about £20

Cooked breakfast at the Harbour Cafe, rock pooling on the low tide, the walk up Little Hangman in the afternoon, then a pint in the Castle Inn garden with chips from the village. That is a full day in north Devon for the price of two meals.
