Dogs at Pennywell Farm: There Are Free Kennels On Site

2026-04-02·Updated 2 Oct 2026·Devon

Short answer: Not inside the farm, but Pennywell provides free dog kennels in a quiet, shaded part of the top car park. Bring a water bowl, and a padlock if you want extra security. Assistance dogs are welcome with a declaration form completed 24 hours ahead.

The short answer

Dogs cannot come into the farm itself — it is a hands-on animal attraction with miniature pigs, lambs and guinea pigs at child height, and dogs and that combination do not mix.

But Pennywell has done something most attractions have not: they provide large dog kennels in the top car park, free, in a quiet and shaded area, with each kennel bolting shut. Bring a water bowl. If you are concerned about security they suggest bringing a padlock.

Why this matters

Almost every other farm and zoo in Devon simply says no and leaves you to work it out — which in practice means somebody sits in the car. Free kennels turn a no into a workable day, and it is worth knowing before you write the place off.

Assistance dogs

Welcome, with conditions. Fully trained and registered assistance dogs from accredited organisations are admitted, and you need to complete their Assistance Dog Declaration Form at least 24 hours before you visit. Emotional support and therapy dogs are not covered.

What the farm is

Near Buckfastleigh, twelve miles from Torbay and about twenty minutes from Plymouth and Exeter. Miniature pigs, pig racing, bottle-feeding lambs, falconry, ferret racing, tractor rides and an indoor play area. Free parking. There is a rainy day guarantee — thirty minutes of rain during your visit earns a free return within seven days.

Dog-friendly nearby

Bellever Forest on the moor is twenty-five minutes and dog friendly throughout. Totnes is seven miles away with the South Devon Railway and a street of independent shops. Buckland Abbey is a National Trust property with dog-friendly grounds.

Dog policies change, and the consequence of getting it wrong is being turned away at the gate. This was checked in September 2026 — ring ahead if you are driving any distance.
