Short answer: Brixham's harbour looks north-west across the bay towards Torquay and Paignton, so the sun sets over the water in front of you — the best sunset position in Torbay. The breakwater is the spot, and it is flat, free and half a mile long.
This is the quiet advantage Brixham has over its neighbours. Torquay and Paignton face east across Tor Bay and get the sunrise. Brixham, tucked into the southern corner, looks back north-west across the same bay — which means the evening sun goes down over the water in front of you with the lights of Torquay coming on beyond it.
The best sunset spot in Torbay, and it is free. Half a mile of flat, level walkway built on granite boulders, running out into the bay with a low wall on the seaward side and benches along it. You are effectively standing in the middle of the water looking back west.
Reviewers describe the view across the marina and harbour towards the coloured houses rising up the hillside as absolutely stunning. It is also genuinely accessible — an easy flat walk for anyone with mobility difficulties. Paid parking, and the spaces are narrow.
The town itself does well at dusk. The Golden Hind replica moored in the middle, the working fleet, and the coloured houses stacked up the hillside catching the last light. Pubs and eateries line two sides of it, so you can watch from a table.
High ground on the headland with the length of the bay in front of you. Free, with fort ruins, Britain's shortest lighthouse and the Guardhouse Café — though the café closes before sunset in most seasons. Drive up and park at the top, or walk out from town in about forty-five minutes.
A short coastal walk from the harbour through the Battery Gardens, facing north-west across the bay. Often empty, with a beach café and toilets on site. The hill down is steep, so factor the climb back in the dark.
Arrive half an hour before sunset and stay twenty minutes after it. The afterglow is usually better than the sunset itself, and almost everyone leaves the moment the sun touches the horizon — so the best light and the emptiest viewpoint arrive at the same time.
The Prince William on the harbour has a big outdoor area facing the fleet. Smugglers up Church Hill puts you alongside the open kitchen, and Eventide on the quay is the highest-rated food in town — book.
